Cameron’s X-Rings are individually cast to your own specifications by one skilled goldsmith with decades of experience.
While other materials and methods could be used - we still use the original design and process to make X-Rings just like they were made in the 40’s and 50’s.
Two gold pieces, the body and the ring face, come together to complete the signature Original X-Ring.
Why do it this way?
Sure, it’s harder to make but it also allows our goldsmith to fire the enamel X on your ring face. That’s why our X-Rings have such a rich, dark X that lasts for generations.
We made it that way on purpose.

A Brief History of The Original X-Ring
The iconic St. Francis Xavier University X-Ring was created in 1942 by Senior Class President Willie “Locker” MacDougall.
Seeking a permanent symbol for graduating students, MacDougall replaced the tradition of custom class pins with a unified graduate ring.
He drew critical inspiration from a preliminary ring face designed in 1928 by Zita Cameron, the original owner of a local jewellery shop, laying the groundwork for a globally recognized university tradition.
Cameron's Jewellery, established in 1922 on Main Street in Antigonish, has been intertwined with the X-Ring since its inception.
The shop worked closely with MacDougall to materialize the original 1942 specifications: a gold band showcasing a hard-baked black enamel "X".
While StFX later introduced strict trademark regulations and additional suppliers, Cameron's Jewellery was uniquely exempted from competitive bidding due to its deep historical custody of the design.
For over eight decades, the shop has proudly remained the "Home of the Original X-Ring."
Their rings are hand-painted using a specialized enamel mixture of glass and powdered metals, which is fired at 1,350 degrees Fahrenheit to permanently fuse the signature finish to the gold.
Today, the store continues to use these exact 1942 specifications to supply the majority of graduating students and alumni each year.

Cameron’s X-Ring Sizes and Pricing
X-Rings are made in both gold and sterling silver. The gold X-rings can be further differentiated by color (i.e., yellow, white, and rose) and by karat or gold content (i.e.,10kt or 14kt).
As the term suggests, the sterling silver X-rings are silver in colour.
To best accommodate individual’s specifications, we developed a variety of style #s that best suit a predetermined range of finger sizes. They are the Pinkie, the #2, #6, #8, #9, and #10.
Additional size #’s exist and are used when needed.
